The Ultimate Move In Day Checklist

Moving day is an exciting time, your new home is ready, the boxes are packed and the removal service is ready, but what next? We’ve compiled an Ultimate Moving Day Checklist for you, to take the stress away and leave only the new home excitement behind!

Remember your Removal Van

Moving home is a lot of work, so getting a removal van takes some of the stress out of the situation, and prevents you from having to take multiple trips. A buying agent can help to book your removal van in advance to make sure they will be available on the day, and that they have both of the addresses they will need.

Move In Morning

Chances are that by moving day the majority of your belongings are packed and ready to go, but getting up early to do one last sweep and pack those last-minute essentials before the moving trucks arrive is essential.

Make sure you have a big breakfast, it’s going to be a long day of moving heavy boxes, arranging furniture and cleaning, so making sure you have fuel for the day is a great start.

Organisation is key

When packing it’s highly likely that you packed by room and labelled accordingly to make unloading easier.

When loading your removal truck, place any boxes you won’t need immediately at the back of the truck, and put things like bedding, loo roll and kitchen essentials at the front, this way there’s no rush to find and unpack everything when you get there. As long as food, sleep and necessities have been taken care of you can relax a little and take your time settling into your new home.

One Last Sweep

Take one last sweep of your home now all of your boxes are out of the way. You may spot something you forgot to pack or see something that needs a quick clean or touch-up before you leave. Don’t forget to lock up before you leave, it may not be your home anymore but it will be somebody else’s.

Speaking of Keys

Have you picked up your key already? Or are you picking it up on-site on move-in day? This is important information and something you need to know before showing up with your removal vans.

Let’s Unload!

Your movers won’t know the layout of your new home, so work with them to unload the van correctly. Let them know which room is which and where certain furniture needs to go, they won’t know the difference between your guest bed and the master bedroom, so make sure to communicate with them.

Unpack the essentials we mentioned previously first. Your buying agent can arrange to have your new home professionally cleaned, so that’s one less thing to worry about on arrival. Making sure you have somewhere to sleep at the end of your long day, and some food and bathroom necessities will be essential to having a comfortable first night in your new home.
